VietSteel Honored to Welcome the USC Marshall Student Delegation Learning About Global Supply Chains – From Vietnam Reaching Out to 80 Markets

VietSteel Machinery Co., Ltd. is very happy to welcome the student delegation from the Global Supply Chain Management program of USC Marshall School of Business. The group is led by Professor Nick Vyas – Founding Executive Director of the Randall R. Kendrick Global Supply Chain Institute – together with his supporting staff.

This is a practical visit that forms part of the students’ international supply chain experience journey. We feel honored that you chose Vietsteel as one of your stops in Vietnam.

The visit is not only a sincere thank-you to the delegation for choosing Vietsteel as a stop, but also an opportunity to share the story of a Vietnamese mechanical enterprise that is contributing to the global supply chain – and how it reaches the most demanding markets such as the Americas and Europe.

Vietnam – An Important link in the world’s supply chains

Vietnam currently exports more than 400 billion USD each year, an increase of about 2.5 times compared with a decade ago. The country has deeply integrated into Asia’s manufacturing network: raw materials and components come in – finished goods go out to the world. As a result, more and more global supply chains now run through Vietnam. VietSteel is one of the companies that is catching this worldwide trend.

Vietsteel manufactures Vietnamese Roll forming machines serving 80 markets

Established in 1998, Vietsteel specializes in designing, manufacturing and supplying roll-forming machine lines such as roofing machines, purlin machines, floor deck machines, light-gauge steel frame machines… Up to now, the company’s machines have been operating in approximately 80 markets in Asia, Europe, Africa, the Americas and Australia, with more than 5,000 lines delivered to more than 500 customers.

Three main reasons why global customers choose Vietsteel:

  • Global distribution: Machines run stably for over 10 years on many continents.
  • Advanced technology: High-precision CNC, nearly 100% automation that reduces labor costs, remote monitoring that keeps lines running continuously.
  • High customization: Each machine is designed according to the customer’s specific profiles and requirements.

The Supply Chain Model “Source Globally – Manufacture in Vietnam – Distribute to 80 markets”

The outstanding point that the USC delegation experienced is the way VietSteel organizes a short, flexible supply chain that creates added value in Vietnam:

  1. Source
    • PLC & electrical systems: imported from Europe (Siemens/Schneider).
    • Black steel (raw material): imported from China (a grade that Vietnam cannot yet fully produce).
  2. Manufacture in Vietnam (Make)
    • Machine design & engineering.
    • CNC machining of rollers and shafts in the workshop.
    • Machine frames, stands, hydraulic cutting stations and full assembly.
    • Strict testing before shipment.
  3. Deliver
    • Export to approximately 80 markets.
    • Delivery time of about 30 days for custom lines.
    • Remote monitoring support and after-sales service.

So what? Vietnam holds the high-value middle part of the chain: engineering, design and assembly. Only two main groups of components need to be imported; the rest is made in-house. This makes the chain short, the speed high and the customization strong – factors that are more important than price alone.

From Machines to Modern Construction Projects

The global construction trend is moving from building sites into factories. Contractors want to build faster, more precisely, with less manual labor and less waste. Steel roll forming machines have become a key link.

Vietsteel not only supplies machines but also participates in supplying light-gauge steel (LGS) frames for modular houses: light, precise, factory-produced, quick to assemble, reducing site waste and more environmentally friendly.

The supply chain is also designed to be greener: using recyclable steel, optimizing designs to reduce scrap, saving energy and water in production.

Lesson and open question

The core message that VietSteel shared with the student delegation:
“Import only what you can’t make well, keep the value-adding steps in-house, and stay close to your suppliers.”
(Only import what you cannot yet make well, keep the value-creating steps in-house, and maintain close relationships with suppliers.)
The question posed to the students:
Where is the biggest risk in this supply chain, and how would you fix it?
The visit of the USC Marshall delegation is not only an academic–business exchange event. It is also an affirmation that Vietnam is increasingly becoming a smart manufacturing center, where enterprises like Vietsteel turn local advantages into global value.

Honored to Receive the Supply Chain Vanguard Award

Within the framework of the visit and cooperation with the student delegation of the Global Supply Chain Management program of USC Marshall School of Business, VietSteel Machinery CO., LTD was honored to receive The Supply Chain Vanguard Award – the Supply Chain Pioneer Award.

The trophy was presented by the Randall R. Kendrick Global Supply Chain Institute (USC Marshall), with the recognition text:

“In recognition of a transformative partnership and an extraordinary dedication to empowering tomorrow’s industry leaders”
(Recognizing a transformative partnership and an outstanding dedication to empowering the industry leaders of the future)

Award time: October 2026.

This is not only an honorary award. It is a strong affirmation from one of the world’s leading business schools about VietSteel’s role in connecting theory with practice, and at the same time contributing to the training of the next generation of global supply chain experts.

The award opens opportunities for long-term cooperation between a Vietnamese enterprise and an international academic institution, creating a foundation for VietSteel to continue expanding markets, raising the prestige of the “Made by Vietnam” brand on the industrial machinery map, and accompanying future leaders in the logistics – supply chain industry.

VietSteel sends its most sincere thanks to Professor Nick Vyas, all the leaders and students of USC Marshall School of Business for their trust, recognition and companionship. We commit to continue striving to be worthy of this trust, contributing more to the development of Vietnam’s mechanical engineering and supply chain industry on the international stage.
